The National Football League is the most popular sport in the United States right now. The NFL has become a year round event. There is a year round network, a daily show on ESPN, and countless other things that keep the NFL on the minds of fans throughout the year. But the NFL wasn’t always the most popular sport. American history football has taken the league from humble beginning to where it is today. Here is a look at the history of football in the United States.

The National Football League began in 1920 and was originally dubbed the American Professional Football Association. Several representatives from independent teams and leagues met in Canton, Ohio. History Of College Football

In 1869 the first intercollegiate football game in America was played. Rutgers and Princeton played at New Brunswick, New Jersey. Modern football fans would not have recognized the game, because it was played under soccer association rules. The game finished with a score of Rutgers’ six runs to Princeton’s four runs. For college sports this is where the history of football began.

An intercollegiate football game, with rules similar to the rules used today, was played in June 1875, between Tufts University and Harvard. Tufts won 1-0. Read more…


History Of Soccer

Soccer has been called the most popular game in the world. It dates back at least 3000 years and many different nationalities of people play. In Germany the Munich Ethnological Museum has a manuscript from China going back to 50 B.C. that tells of games played among teams from China and Japan. The teams used a leather ball and kicked it in competition. Verification has been made of a soccer game being played in 611 A.D. in Kyoto which was the Japanese capital at that time. Read more…


History Of Rugby

There’s various arguments of how rugby all got started since, yes, it is primarily noted as having English origins but there’s also ties to the game that go beyond that, back as far as the 5th to 16th centuries. The noted English version was started in 1823 by William Webb Ellis who had “a fine disregard for the rules of football”, thus, giving us a different variation with taking the ball and just running with it.
